In 2024, I was invited by the lead archaeologist to walk the ruins of Sais, the ancient city where Neith’s great temple once stood. Though only fragments remain, the site carries a profound stillness — a memory of the goddess who was said to “open the ways” and “weave the world into being.”

Standing at Sais and Esna in the same year created a powerful continuity, a living thread of Neith’s presence across time and landscape.

The Temple of Esna has undergone an extraordinary transformation in recent years. After the removal of nearly 2,000 years of soot, dust, and bird debris, its original pigments have re‑emerged in astonishing vibrancy. The Egyptian–German restoration team began work around 2018 and continues to uncover brilliant reds, yellows, blues, and greens across the ceiling, columns, and inner walls.

Although the surviving structure is the Roman‑era pronaos, the temple’s inscriptions make clear that Esna honored Khnum, his consorts Menhit and Nebtu, their son Heka, and importantly the goddess Neith — a powerful creator goddess associated with wisdom, protection, and the cosmic waters.

The Egyptian–German restoration team continues to reveal brilliant details across the ceiling, columns, and inner walls.

Although the surviving structure is the Roman‑era pronaos, inscriptions show that Esna honored Khnum, Menhit, Nebtu, Heka, and importantly Neith — whose presence is woven into the temple’s restored imagery.
